Bio

Orson Albert Miner 75, died at his home at 1:40 p.m. Tuesday 23 Aug 1949. He made his home in Fairview for his entire life. When he was 2 years old the family moved to the farm 1 mile south of town. He grew up on the farm and learned to work hard. At a young age he learned to herd sheep and milk cows. His clothes were made from fabric woven from wool spun from the families sheep. At age 14 he went to work at a saw mill but quit that job to go to work for the Brady brothers herding sheep. It made him nervous to be in the mountains alone for over 3 months. He attended school in Fairview and worked hard on the farm with the family. One winter he attended School in Ephrain at Snow College. After working on the farn for another summer he left for a year of schooling at Brigham Young Acadamy in Provo, Utah. The fall before he left for Provo he meet a young lady named Nancy Brady. They grew up in Fairview but never meet until that time. His parents encouraged him to return to his studies in Provo, but he was now in love. He married Nancy Rebecca Brady on 19 Nov 1894. He worked at a saw mill as a timber cutter. He also worked for the railroad. Then came the depression and his little family had a very hard time. He helped build the Sanpete County Infirmary. A year later he worked on the rock school house. His job was getting the stones cut and wheeled to the masons, he later wrote that he felt like he wheeled every stone in the school house. In Oct 1901 they bought the Cotton Wood Canyon toll road. In the 7 years they operated the toll road they made changes on the road from the bottom of the canyon and put up the north side of the road. In the spring of 1908 Orson and Nancy bought the farm from his father for $6,000.00. They lived and raised their nine children on the farm for the next 14 years. In 1919 they bought a home in Fairview and lived in it for the rest of their married life. They had 9 children and 30 grandchildren.
