Bio

Beverly Ann (Shockey) McElroy, 86, a long-time resident of Moriarty, New Mexico, passed away on June 18, 2024, at her home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Beverly was born on April 28, 1938, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the daughter of Golda Galbraith and Everett True Shockey. She was raised in Stanley, NM, by her father and her step-mother, Euline (Boggan). She grew up near King's Ranch alongside the future Governor Bruce King, and his brothers, Don and Sam King. She graduated from Stanley High School when she was 16 years old. She went on that fall to ENMU then transferred to Draughan's Business College in Albuquerque. She married the love of her life, Donald Neal McElroy, a New Mexico State Police Officer, on August 15, 1958, in Moriarty, NM. They met through her brother, Ken Shockey, who was also a State Police Officer, at an outing at the NM State Fair. Beverly was an avid genealogist and loved her birds and animals. She enjoyed true crime magazines and listening to police scanners. She loved being a State Police Officer's wife. She was a homemaker, a school bus driver for Butler School Bus Company and Davis School Bus Company with the Moriarty School District for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Neal McElroy; her parents, Golda Galbraith and Everett True Shockey; her step-mother, Euline (Boggan); her sister, Aurelia Sellman; and her brothers, Kenneth Gale Shockey and James H Shockey. Beverly is survived by three daughters, LaDonna Plew, Denise Staab (husband Mark), and Kelley Vejar, all of NM; one son, Clarence McElroy (wife Sylvia); one half-sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Brown; and one sister-in-law, Ouita Shockey; 10 grandchildren: Shane, Cheyenne, Garrett, Katee Lee, Caleb, Candace, Gideon, Bronson, Hollie and Samantha; six great-grandchildren: Joseph, Ezraleah, Neomiah, Kylo, Jaxin and Bailey Moon; cousins, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
