Daily Post Athenian April 9, 2004 Arthur Nunley, 92, of Athens, died Friday, April 9, 2004, at his home. A son of the late J.O. and Kate Calhoun Nunley, he was a native of Loudon County and, after coming from Greeneville, had lived in Athens since Nov. 18, 1918. He was a member of Lake View Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Ada Mae Cornett Nunley, on July 7, 2003; his first wife, Myrtle Crabtree Nunley; one daughter, Reba Nunley Crabtree; and one son, Paul Nunley. He was an honorary lifetime member of the McMinn County Rescue Squad and was a former member of the Junior Order. After being self-employed for 56 years, he retired in 1970, having owned and operated the Athens Radio Shop for many years in downtown Athens. Survivors include three sons, Pad, Larry and Chris Nunley, all of Athens; one daughter, Johnnie Mae Smith of Ft. Payne, Ala.; one sister, Edna Hammonds of Athens; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were 8 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Van Elkins officiating. Graveside services were 11 a.m. Monday at McMinn Memory Gardens with members of the McMinn County Rescue Squad serving as pallbearers. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home of Athens was in charge of arrangements.
