Barkes Manus, 78, of California Street died at 10:10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at the home of her son. She was retired from Cummins Engine Co. and Sears. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Barkes, Inlow & Weaver Funeral Home on Washington Street with the Revs. Barbara Grace and Robert Lay officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana. Born Dec. 15, 1924, in Columbus, Mrs. Manus was the daughter of Fred and Mary Elizabeth Holmes Donica. She married Howard L. Barkes. He preceded her in death. She married Roy D. Manus. He preceded her in death. Survivors include sons, David H. Barkes of Dallas, Gary L. Barkes of Nashville and Kevin R. Barkes of Columbus; a brother, Carl Donica of Columbus; grandchildren, Melissa L. Smith of Columbus and Jennifer L. Barkes of Nashville; and a great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Clyde, Cliff and Clayton Donica; and sisters, Edith Baker, Eathel Ledbetter, Eva Walker and Elelah Sprague. He preceded her in death. She married Roy D. Manus, who also preceded her in death. Mrs. Manus was retired from Cummins Engine Company and Sears. Survivors include sons, David H. Barkes of Dallas, Texas, and Kevin R. Barkes of Columbus; a brother, Carl Donica of Columbus; grandchildren, Melissa L. Smith of Columbus and Jennifer L. Barkes of Nashville; and a great-granddaughter. A service was held Saturday, January 4, at Barkes, Inlow and Weaver Funeral Home with the reverends Barbara Grace and Robert Lay officiating. Burial was in Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana.
