Bio

David John Sinkule, age 74, passed away on May 9, 2024, at West Rest Haven in West, Texas. David was born January 31, 1950 in Waco, Texas, the son of Johnnie and Agnes (Pustejovsky) Sinkule. He was a 1968 graduate of Abbott High School, a 1970 graduate of Hill Junior College, and a 1972 graduate of Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agronomy. On October 27, 1973, he was united in marriage to Gail Finn in Bellmead, Texas, and to this union, Daryl John and Jennifer Marie were born. He later married Sherri Smith Williams on October 28, 1989, in Abbott, Texas, and to this union, Kayla Elyse was born, and David welcomed Sherri's daughter, Amber Diann, as his own. Professionally, David served as Landscape Supervisor at Presbyterian Hospital (Dallas), draftsman at Sprinkler Engineering Company (Richardson, Texas), and General Manager at Trinity Bend Farm and Ranch (Peeltown, Texas). He also farmed and ranched in Abbott and Chatt. David was a true outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, fish, and explore on his 4-wheeler. But as life unfolded, a different kind of thrill emerged: Joining the Kemp Volunteer Fire Department ignited David's passion for service, and he set his sights on becoming an EMT, eager to help others. Unfortunately, the early stages of Parkinson's disease forced him to step back from this newfound calling. Even indoors, David found ways to connect with his adventurous spirit. Classic westerns and shows like "All in the Family" and "The Andy Griffith Show" entertained him. RFD-TV became a favorite TV channel, offering a window into the rural life he cherished, with its farm reports, "Larry's Country Diner," and the lively "Mollie B Polka Party." David loved to cook and bake, and he was a grilling enthusiast. Some of his favorite goodies to bake were pecan and buttermilk pies. At Christmas, he would distribute his baked goods to friends, neighbors, and the ladies at the bank. Embodying the Sinkule trait, David loved to talk. He never knew a stranger. He was always the first to lend a hand to those in need. Honesty and integrity were his best virtues. David's love was deep and true. His family meant the world to him. David was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Kaufman before moving to West Rest Haven. He was also a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 11721. David is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sherri Smith Sinkule; and grandson, Benjamin Simon. Survivors include four children, Daryl Sinkule and spouse Randy Mills of Dallas; Jennifer Stithem of Plano; Kayla Simon and spouse Gerich of Roeland Park, KS; and Amber Williams Barber and spouse Will of Coeur d'Alene, ID; four grandchildren, Emma and Brooks Watson, Cooper Simon, Max Barber, and soon-to-be-born grandson, Callum Simon; sister Susan Roberts and spouse Larry of Cleburne; mother of his children from his first marriage, Gail Sinkule of Waco; nephew Christopher Miklis and spouse Savanah of Canton; and niece Stephanie Matos and spouse Manuel of Fort Worth. A rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, May 24, 2024, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott. A Memorial Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m., celebrated by Reverend Thomas Jones. David's final act of charity was his participation in the UT Southwestern Willed Body Program to advance medical research. As a result, Christian burial will be held at a later date at Fatima Cemetery in Abbott. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741, or www.michaeljfox.org. David's family extends a heart-felt thank you to the staff of West Rest Haven, who cared for and deeply loved David for many years.
