Sharon Skarda, 88, of Monticello, Minnesota, formerly of Creston, Iowa passed away Friday, January 19, 2024, at Centra Care Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston. Father Patrick Amedeka will officiate. Open visitation, with family receiving friends will be 4-7 p.m., Friday, May 17, 2024, with a sharing time at 6:30 p.m., at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Sharon Jean Skarda was born August 6, 1935, in Rising City, Neb., to Helen Agnes (Haney) and William Michael Rozanek. Sharon graduated from Columbus High School in 1953. On July 27, 1957, Sharon was united in marriage to Richard 'Dick' Edward Skarda in Columbus, Neb. When they were first married, they lived in various communities in Nebraska. In 1965 they settled in Creston, where she began doing secretarial work and later began working as the director of medical records department, where she worked for 20 years, retiring in 2005, after 40 years of service at the Greater Regional Medical Center. Sharon was an active member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Council of Catholic Women, Chautauqua, American Health Information Association, where she has served in many different offices in the state association. In Sharon's free time she enjoyed puzzles, dominoes, crossword puzzles, reading, particularly mysteries by James Patterson, and playing bridge and working at the Creston Rerun Shop. Sharon is survived by her son Rich Skarda of Creston; daughter, LeAnn (husband David) Dodge of Monticello, MN.; Grandchildren: Erin Skarda (partner Keith) of Ankeny, Ia., Jarrett Skarda of Creston, Taylor Hess of Monticello MN and Abby (husband Eric) Sink of Corning; nieces, Jennifer (husband Scott) England of Littleton, CO, Sarah Morrow of Ames and Molly (husband Erik) Paulson of Denver, CO.; nephews, Fred Morrow of Ames and Tim (wife Brenda) Morrow of Altoona; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard Skarda in 2018, a sister Nancy (husband David) Morrow, her parents-in-law, George and Helen Skarda, and brothers-in-law, Robert and Marvin Skarda and sisters-in-law, Helen Skarda and Laura Skarda Mansfield.
