Bio

Stanley Cuba, age 97, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, in Odessa, Texas. A rosary will be recited at 9:30AM, Monday, April 29, 2024, with a funeral mass to follow at 10:00 AM, Monday, April 29th, 2024, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Megargel, Texas. The graveside service will take place at the Megargel cemetery. Stanley, one of twelve children, was born February 27, 1927, to John and Rosie (Darilek) Cuba in Megargel, Texas. He married Rosetta Butler on March 26, 1951. His service in the U.S. Navy during WWII was recognized by an invitation to participate in an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Following his service to our country, he studied management at Texas Tech and graduated in 1950. After college, he moved to Plainview, Texas and worked for JCPenney and Sears. He was transferred to Odessa, Texas, and continued his career with Sears until his retirement. Stanley was a faithful member of both St. Mary and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic churches in Odessa, Texas, and was a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He was active in many organizations including Jaycees, VFW, American Legion, KJT, Optimist Club, and DAV. He was a pilot and enjoyed flying and vacationing with family. He loved watching sports, keeping up with the news, investing, traveling and socializing with family and friends. He was a friend to all and never met a stranger. He is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Lydia Cuba, Angeline Hajek and Rose Cuba; and two brothers, O.J. Cuba and Joe Cuba. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Rosetta; 5 children, Greg Cuba (Sadie), Ginger Borman (Marshal), Karen Cuba, Jan Starnes (Mark), and Patricia Hamilton; three sisters, Mary Musil, Frances Quinlan, and Georgia Hall; three brothers, Johnnie Cuba, Jim Cuba, and Henry Cuba; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and extended family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, ℅ Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 206 N. Cedar St., Seymour, TX 76380. The Family would like to give thanks to the V.A. Staff and to all those who have cared for him over the years. Also, a very special thanks to his personal caretaker, Takeah, for her love and support.
