Bio

Charles W. Pavelka, 86, of Mart, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at a local hospital. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 24, at Grace Lutheran Church in Mart with Pastor Robert Kitson officiating. Burial will be at Pavelka Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 23, at Bellmead Funeral Home. Charlie was born in Elk, Texas, to the late Willie and Valasta (Adamek) Pavelka, and had three brothers and a sister. After attending school in McLennan County, he joined the U.S. Army during World War II and was "Proud to be an American." After the war, he returned home and met and married Rubylee Kunkel, on Oct. 17, 1946. Charlie bought a farm near Hallsburg and farmed until times got hard in 1950 and then went to work at General Tire & Rubber Co., for 30 years where he made many good friends. He loved spending time with his family. His garden was another love, planting, working, and watching it grow. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Mart, the S.P.J.S.T. Lodge in Elk where he danced many polka's with Ruby and was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. in Mart. Charlie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him and will never be forgotten. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby; sister, Willie Mae Veselka; a brother, Edwin Pavelka; and great-granddaughter, Alyssa Brown. Survivors include his sons, Gene Pavelka and wife, Barbara, of Hallsburg, Donnie Pavelka and wife, Cindy, of Axtell, and Randy Pavelka and wife, Carla, of Hallsburg; daughter, Betty Brown and husband, Lynn, of Chilton; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers, Eldon Pavelka and wife, Dorothy, of West, and Bobby Pavelka, of Abbott; sisters-in-law, Grace Lander, of Lacy Lakeview, Dorothy Banik and Elizabeth Kunkel, both of Elm Mott, and Helen Dulock, of Leroy; and numerous nieces and nephews; other family members and friends.
