Obituary (from the Byrum Funeral Home website): Dixie Ray Doss was born on January 19, 1930 in Walnut Springs, TX and passed away on February 14, 2024 in Ennis, TX. Dixie met the love of her life Loyd Pat Doss in Dallas at Skillerns Drug store while working the soda fountain. They married on October 12, 1946. When she told the story of how they met, she would often say, "I wanted Loyd to be my boyfriend, and we were going to get married. He just didn't know it yet, and we did!" She was proud to be Mrs. L. P. Doss, and everyone knew she Loved her husband, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great-grandchildren and extended family. Truly, Dixie was the matriarch of her family. She was loyal to her family and her closest friends Esta, Polly, and the one she called her brother, our "Uncle Warren." She was a stay-at-home house wife that accomplished a multitude of tasks every day and still manage to slow down long enough to sneak off and hide behind the lime tree, drink a coke, and smoke a cigarette. She is remembered for so many things from her famous recipes for chicken and dumplings to fresh home cooked meals made from her garden, her orchard, and the chicken house. She would dance in the kitchen while ironing and listing to Elvis Presley music, and at the end of the day before dinner hit the table, she would fix her hair and apply her red lipstick. Her moto was the "Redder the Better." She is preceded in death by her husband, Loyd Pat Doss; her daughter, Ramona Doss; her son, Kennith Doss; her grandson, James Coleman; her daughter, Tira Coleman; her son-in-law, James Coleman; and her son, Shane Doss who is survived by his wife, Tammy. Dixie is survived by four daughters: Reba Sturles, Marva and husband Robert High, Carla Paine, and Lara Baleno. She has 18 grandchildren: Heath Doss and wife Suzanne, Daryl Doss and wife Jennifer, Raina Sturles, Loyd Sturles, Trayona Skrivanek and husband Garry, Donna Hickson and husband Jason, Shanna Wood and husband Russell, Robert High Jr, Chadwick High, Fredrick High, Angel High, Janice Coleman, Michael Paine and wife Stacey, Clifton Paine and wife Ashley, Kennith Doss, Preston Doss, Amber Mixon, and Ashley Lopez. It happens that tears are sometimes an inappropriate response to the passing of a loved one. When life has been lived completely honestly, completely successfully, or just completely, the correct response to deaths perfect punctuation mark…is a Smile. Family will receive friends from 11:00am to 12:00pm on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Byrum Funeral Home Chapel with a Celebration of Dixie's life at 12:00pm directly following visitation.
