Bio

"Oct. 11th - Mon. - Began raining sometime in the night and this morning is coming down in a slow drizzle. A dreary outlook and just fitted to the news brought up by Emmet Buford, that John Brady was run over last night at the depot and killed, cut all to pieces by a passing train. The particulars of the sad affair as I heard them were to this effect. He was killed by a switching train while on duty at the depot as a health officer, being appointed as such by the board together with T.J. Bunch. Just how the details of the killing occurred no one will probably ever be informed in this world, as he was alone at the time in the yard. He was cut in two at the hips and one arm mashed out flat from the shoulders to the hand and it was the opinion of Dr. Beaty that he had been dead for several hours when found and several trains had passed over him. He was buried this evening at 4:00 at the Citizens Cemetery by the K. of P. Lodge. He was a good man. Not a brilliant man nor a simpleton but a good, clean, moral gentleman. He was unmarried and may he rest in peace. From the Journal of George Henry Babbitt, who wrote about life in turn-of-the-century Okolona. Provided by findagrave members Paul Armstrong and James Coston (#47251791).
