James "Jim" Rickert, 93, of Columbus, Nebraska, died peacefully on Saturday, April 13, 2024, surrounded by his family. Private service will be held. Public visitation will be on Wednesday from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home. Private interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery with military honors by The American Legion Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard. James "Jim" Rickert was born June 24, 1930, in Columbus, Nebraska, to John L.V. and Eunice Viola (Witters) Rickert. He attended Kramer High School and started farming with his father. On September 28, 1950, Jim was united in marriage to Mildred Kant at Christ Lutheran Church. On March 27, 1952, Jim entered the United States Army during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on June 5, 1954. He returned to farming and to help supplement the farming income, worked at Behlen Manufacturing for over 30 years. He served on the Farmers Union Creamery Board and was a faithful member of Peace Lutheran Church. Jim enjoyed visiting about the farm, going to coffee with his friends and spending time with his family. Jim is survived by: Son – Terry "Fuzz" Rickert of Columbus, NE Son – Tim (Sue) Rickert of Columbus, NE Daughter – LeAnne (Rich) Johnston of Fountain Hills, AZ Daughter – Susan (Stuart) Krejci of Wahoo, NE 7 Grandchildren 14 Great Grandchildren Brother – Alvin Rickert of Columbus, NE Special Niece – Irene Clayburn Faithful companion – Toby, his cat Jim was preceded in death by: Parents – John and Eunice Rickert Wife – Mildred Rickert Infant Brother – Harold John Rickert Sister – Virginia (Milton) Ewert Great Grandson – Brandon Sister-in-law – Mabel Rickert
