Bio

Victor George Balcar, 87, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on April 6, 2024. He was born March 3, 1937, in El Campo to the late Willie Balcar and Mary Bartosh Balcar. He grew up in El Campo and attended school there. He served in the National Guard directly after high school. He followed in his father's footsteps of building homes. In his mid-20's, he was also co-owner of Home Products Company in El Campo. He met his wife of 59 years, Mary Jane Hlavaty and married in 1964. Together they raised five children. His passion was music, loved polkas and was a self-taught accordionist. He enjoyed playing the accordion for his kids and grandkids. It was common to see him playing poker or tarocks during family get togethers with family members. He had strong family ethics and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandkids and great-grandkids. He was a member of St Philip Catholic Church. For over 60 years he was a member of Knights of Columbus 2490. He is survived by his wife Mary Jane, daughters Sandra Knesek, Linda Berndt and husband Andrew, Clarissa Balcar, Brenda Harp and husband James, son Jeff Balcar and wife Sharla, grandchildren, Kacey Knesek, Chase Berndt, Lacey Knesek, Clayton Harp, Kaylyn Harp, Macey Knesek, Cayden Balcar, Kyle Balcar, Natalie Lucas, great grandchildren Kason Luna and Michaela Luna, Sister Mary Lee Smajstrla. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Jennie Lee Balcar and Jo Ann Balcar Hlavaty and brother Adolph Balcar (Sophie). Visitation will begin on April 9th at 4:30 pm with a rosary followed at 6:00 pm at Triska Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on April 10th at 9:30 am at St. Philip Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren Kacey Knesek, Chase Berndt, Lacey Knesek, Clayton Harp, Kaylyn Harp, Macey Knesek, Cayden Balcar, Kyle Balcar. Memorial donations may be made to St. Philip Catholic School Library and St. Philip Catholic Church. Special thanks to Houston Hospice, Virginia Hand and Gloria Bubela.
