Source: Stokely Funeral Home Lavaine Dorothy Uher was born on October 27, 1928 to Joseph and Blanche (Dostal) Uher on the family farm near Howells. She attended St. John Nepomucene Catholic School to the 8th grade then worked at Vesely's Grocery Store in Howells. On May 4, 1949, Lavaine married Wilbur Doerneman at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Howells. Together, they embarked on a farming life near Aloys, where Lavaine dedicated herself to supporting her husband and raising their family. In August of 2021, at the age of 93, she transitioned to the nursing home. Lavaine's green thumb and passion for baking were well-known. Her vegetable garden yielded bountiful harvests, providing fresh produce for her family. Her skill in the kitchen was unmatched, and her delicious baked goods were eagerly anticipated by all who were fortunate enough to sample them. She delighted in listening to polka music and playing cards. A devoted listener of Kitchen Klatter, Lavaine found inspiration in the stories and recipes shared on the radio program. She will be remembered for always lending a helping hand to anyone. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilbur in 1996; daughter-in-law, Ladeta Doerneman; sons-in-law, Bernie Humlicek and Butch Shaffer; and sisters, Arlene Schultz, Delores Adams and Erma Dinslage.
