Bio
Sol David Barclay, 84, of Lockney departed this life on Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at his residence. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2008, at First Baptist Church in Lockney with Dr. Carl Moman officiating. Burial will follow at Lockney Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Lockney. Family will greet friends from 3-4 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2008, at Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Lockney. He was born in Montague County near Forestberg, Texas, to William David and Sue Zetta Jane (Kuykendalle) Barclay. Sol grew up in the Antelope Flat community. He farmed for Tom Word for one year then for Reed Lawson in the Lone Star community for more than 40 years. He retired in 1988. However, his love for the land was too strong so he farmed for Charles Huffman, and Richard and Ronald Mahagan to the age of 81 years. He married Geneva Sutton on Dec. 18, 1942, at Judge Coffee's house in Silverton, Texas. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and loved ones, even his outside kitty cats that he fed twice daily until he grew too weak. He served in the Civil Service Corps back in the 1940s. Sol and Geneva are members of RSVP and received the Citizens of the Year Award. They are also members of the Senior Citizens and members of First Baptist Church of Lockney. He is preceded in death by his father and mother; his brothers, Wilcey Wayne, Clarence Curtis and William Grant Barclay; his sisters, Valda Mae Wiese, Versa Magdalene Perry and Vada Merle Barclay; three granddaughters, Deanna Jannette Johnson, Julie Marie Johnson and Dana Lynn Murrell and her unborn son. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Geneva (Sutton) Barclay; his son, Jerry Don and wife Sandra Barclay of Flomot; his three daughters, Bobbie Jo and husband Danny Bowman of Plainview, Jessie Mae and husband Greg Blevins of Yukon, Okla., and Wilma Ann Barclay of Plainview; his brother, Dalton (Dan) and wife Penny Barclay of Kingman, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Sol requested his grandsons to be his pallbearers, and they are: Gerald Johnson, Jason Johnson, Lance Barclay, Cody Barclay, Ty Barclay, David Painter, Roy Lewis, Brent Poole, Tim Martin, Curtis Gilbert, Paul Wilkins and Kelly Czajkoski. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Lockney Senior Citizens, 118 W. College St., Lockney, TX 79241. Published in the Plainview Daily Herald from 5/15/2008 - 5/16/2008.
