Worthy S. Wilemon Dies At Church Rev. Worthy Sylvester Wilemon, 70, retired minister of the Church of God, died suddenly Sunday, August 2, shortly after 10:00 o'clock ar Foster's Chapel Church, where he was attending morning worship services. His death was attributed to a heart attack. In addition to his 20 years service in the ministry, Mr. Wilemon had also taught school. He was at one time a state officer for his church denomination. A native of Blount County and a resident of route four Oneonta, he was the son of the late William and Margaret Clowdus Wilemon. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Zula Ellis Wilemon; one son, H. D. Wilemon, Chattanooga; three daughters, Miss Tera Wilemon, route four Oneonta, Mrs. Hazel Hood, route one Boaz, and Mrs. Imogene Maxwell, Hueytown, two brothers, Garfield Wilemon of Sylacauga and John Wilemon of South Carolina; two sisters, Mrs. Syrena Wadsworth and Mrs. Fannie Dailey of Oneonta; six grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Foster's Chapel Church of God ad 10:30 Tuesday. Revs M.D. Harwood, I.C. Thompson and Reid Maxwell officiating. Burial was in Foster's Chapel Cemetery, Lemley Funeral Chapel in charge. [Published in The Southern Democrat - 6 Aug 1959] Worthy S. Wilemon, died on the front pew of Foster's Chapel Church of God, Straight Mountain, Blount County, Alabama. He and others had been discussing with their Pastor the forthcoming Sunday School lesson. His last words were, "there are some things we won't ever know until we get to Heaven". Worthy Sylvester Wilemon was a grandson of Pliney and Nancy Buckner Wilemon. Worthy married Zula Modelia Ellis on May 22, 1913. He became a pastor of Foster's Chapel Church of God sometime after he & Zula left the Methodist Church, after their conversion into the Church of God through the evangelism of Rev. J. B. Ellis, Zula's uncle by marriage.
