The Ephraim Enterprise Friday, March 2, 1951 Page 5 E. E. Reid Dies At Age 83 Edward E. Reid, 83, died early Saturday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mabel Dyreng, in Ephraim of causes incident to age. He had been seriously ill only a few weeks. He was born at Spring Lake, September 18, 1867, a son of William T. and Jane McEwan Reid, while his parents were enroute from Salt Lake City to settle at Manti. He had lived in Manti most of his life and worked as a farmer, carpenter and cattleman. He worked as a carpenter in the building of the Manti Temple. He was an active member of the L. D. S. church and was a High Priest at time of his death. Mr. Reid married Elizabeth Henrie on Jan. 3, 1889 and she died just a year later. He then married Izenna Anderson in the Manti Temple on June 27, 1893, and she died Sept. 8, 1929. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ivan L. (Mabel) Dyreng, Ephraim; Mrs. Frank (Lucile) Lovewell, Salt Lake City, and Mrs. Irvan (Lenore) Carlson, Spanish Fork; two half brothers, E. T. Reid of Salt Lake City and C. W. Reid of Los Angeles, California; 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted in the Manti Center ward chapel on Monday by Bishop B. C. Braithwaite. Prelude and postlude organ music was furnished by Mrs. Edna Pack and musical numbers on the program included "Oh My Father" by the Ephraim West Ward quartette, accompanied by Eldon Frost; vocal solo, "Calvary" by Sam Parry, accompanied by Maude Reid; vocal solo, "The Lord's Prayer" by Meeks Halliday of Provo, accompanied by Maude Reid, and "Abide Within My Soul" by the mixed quartette. Prayers were by Clyde Pritchett of the Manti Center ward and Bishop Glen J. Nielson of the Ephraim West ward, with Ivan L. Dyreng dedicating the grave in the Manti cemetery. President L. R. Anderson spoke of Mr. Reid's father and of his accomplishments, and of Mr. Reid's faithfulness and work in life. He told of working with him in the Seventies presidency, and told of the wonderful heritage left Mr. Reid's posterity. He told how appreciative Mr. Reid was to his own children for their goodness to him in his old age. Speaker Peter Nielson told of their missionary experiences in the Southern States; their travels without purse or script; their hard times and their faith and prayers in the mission field. Speaker Edgar T Reid, a half brother, spoke of knowing the family members and said he held dear their associations together. He spoke of his belief of an inevitable reunion with family members who have gone on to "the other side." Speaker Alphonzo Henrie endorsed the remarks of the preceding speakers. He told of having known the family and the children, and said he considered them indeed a wonderful family. He told of the many contributions they had made to the community. He read a poem written by Lenore to her father when he was in the hospital in 1942.
