Bio

------------------------- Charles Lee Burns was born November 3, 1917 in Sterling, Oklahoma to Zora Bell and Samuel Lee Burns. He passed away December 10, 2003 in the Roger Mills Memorial Hospital, Cheyenne, Oklahoma at the age of 86 years, 1 month and 7 days. In 1919, the family moved in a covered wagon to Roger Mills County. Charles married the love of his life Viola Blann, on May 29, 1937 at Reydon, Oklahoma. She passed away on November 30. 1999. During World War II, Charles answered the call of his country and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in the Phillippine Islands. Prior to his military service Charles had begun a career in 1940 with the Forest Service and then transferred to Soil Conservation in 1948. During his career he did all types of conservation practices in Roger Mills County. He is retired as a Engineering Technician after 37 years of service. Charles was a faithful member of the Church of Christ. He was Church Treasurer for 30 years and served on other committees as well. In earlier yearrs, Charles was active in the community and civic organizations. He served the American Legion as Post Commander and the Cheyenne Golf Club as President. Charles and Viola both enjoyed company. They hosted many famuily reunions and entertained often in their home. In recent years, Charles looked forward to being with friends for lunch each day at the Cheyenne Senior Citizen Center. In addition to Viola, he was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Grace Burns Daugherty, and a brother, Sammy Lee Burns. Services were held December 13, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at Cheyenne Church of Chrisat, officiated by Kendall Abner and Gilbert Hill. Burial will be at Cheyenne Cemetery, Cheyenne, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service. Survivors include 1 son Larry Burns of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; 1 daughter and son-in-law Jeannean Blanton Hill and Gilbert Hill of Edmond, Oklahoma; 8 grandchildren Rick, Kerry, Lorri, Holli, Bryant, Brent, Tamra and Tara; 7 great grandchildren Romi, Rami, Ricky, Ramey, Kody, Brittany and Sage; 2 great great grandchildren Tana and Merrick; 1 niece Donna Colleen Ledbetter,; and a host of relatives and friends.
