Lois Harward, age 93, of Nevada, Iowa passed away peacefully at Rolling Green Nursing Home on February 9, 2024. Born Lois Jean Koskovich on October 26, 1930 in Thurston County, near Emerson, Nebraska, she was the daughter of Alex and Mabel (Macklin) Koskovich, the ninth of twelve children. The family moved to South Sioux City, Nebraska when Lois was nine and she lived there until after graduation from South Sioux City High School in 1948. Lois worked for a time at Johnson Biscuit Company in Sioux City, Iowa (later known as Interbake Foods) where she would meet her future husband, Don Harward. They were married July 21, 1951 in Sioux City and lived there throughout their 51 year marriage. They had two daughters, Sharon and Gay. Don passed away September 12, 2002. Besides Johnson Biscuit Company, Lois also worked at A&W during the day while her daughters were at school. Later, as an assistant manager at Flowerland for many years. She also served as president of the Metro Chapter of American Business Women's Association (ABWA) ad was names "Woman of the Year". Lois was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Sioux City, enjoyed volunteering, sewing, cooking, and gardening at her home in Sioux City. She also delivered books from Morningside Public Library to those who could not get to the library. She moved to Indian Creek Assisted Living in Nevada, Iowa in 2018 where she indulged in arts and crafts projects, listening to music and audio books on her CD player and playing bingo, one of her favorite activities. Survivors include daughters Sharon (William) Stone of Sun Lakes, Arizona and Gay (Jerald) Dunahoo of Ames, Iowa; three grandsons, Matt(Megan) Wenger of Ames, Iowa, Brent Wenger of Ames, Iowa, and Dr. Reid Stone(Lindsey); four great-grandchildren, Emma and Olivia Wenger (Matt & Megan) of Ames, Iowa, and Enzo and Nico Stone of Lead/Deadwood, South Dakota (Sharon & William). Also one sister, Delores Homer of Des Moines, Iowa, one brother Harvey Koskovich of Harrisburg, Oregon, two sisters-in-law, Aileen Koskovich of Alhambra, California and Helen Koskovich of South Sioux City, Nebraska, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Don, both parents, seven brothers (Fern, Darrell, Ray, Marvin, Archie, Floyd, and Valley) and two sisters (Mamie[Stading] and Verna[Shakleford]. Her wishes of cremation will be honored and she will be interred at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City with her husband, Don at a later date.
