GLADEWATER - Services for Jessie Mae Lassiter Pynes, 90, Gladewater, are scheduled for 3 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rodger Garbs, Larry W. Osborne and John Lee Ussery officiating. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery under direction of Croley Funeral Home, Gladewater. Mrs. Pynes died May 4, 2008. She was born Jan. 14, 1918, in Merkel to the late Galen and Winnie Lassiter. She graduated in 1936 from Commerce Demonstration High School, received her bachelor's degree in 1939 and her master's degree in 1951 from East Texas State Teachers College in Commerce. She began teaching at Pritchett and transferred to Gladewater Independent School District, retiring in 1980 after 41 years service. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she served as a trustee and on the administrative board, and a member of Dorcas Bible Study Club, Gladewater Chamber of Commerce, Gladewater Garden Club and Monday Morning Prayer Group. She was named Woman of the Year in 1979 by the Chamber of Commerce. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Roy Pynes in March 1982. Survivors include one niece, cousins and other relatives. If desired, memorials may be made to First Untied Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1167, Gladewater, 75644.
