Bio

~ This Is A Monument Memorial only ~ Elizabeth was a daughter Mary Hemmingway and John Healey/Healy, both of England. They saved to immigrate to America to join with other LDS Church members migrating to Utah Territory. They only had money for 1 adult and 4 children on the ship. They were listed with the surname of " Ely " on the manifest of the SS John J Boyd , leaving Liverpool Harbor 23 April 1862. Mary sailed, along with Hyrum 7, Joseph 6, Thomas 5, and infant "Emma" [This is Elizabeth Ann, Emma is an error]. They arrived at the Port of New York 1 June 1862. Mary and children traveled by rail to Nebraska Territory to join the John Riggs Murdock Wagon Company for the trek to Salt Lake City. This Company left the LDS Church outpost at Florence 24 July, 1862. They were listed on the wagon roster as "Mary, Hyrum, Joseph, Thomas, Elizabeth, and George Blair Ely " [ Emigration: It has not been determined on which ship he (George Blair Ely) traveled. He appears in the 1862 company with Mary Hemmingway Healey, but there does not appear to be any direct relationship between the two. It appears he returned to England the following year. [should not have been listed with the Healey family] Two weeks into the journey, little Elizabeth Ann passed away. There was no information found as to why she died; she was buried alongside the Mormon Trail. According to Mary's history, it read: "When they drew near the Missouri River, her only daughter, Elizabeth Ann 16 months, died, and with tears and prayers she was buried wrapped in a teamster's shirt." Little Elizabeth Ann was buried near the Missouri River in Nebraska Territory. Her Mother and siblings reached Salt Lake City 27 September 1862. John Healey waited, with a son, to immigrate to America in 1863.
