I was very lucky to have known my great-grandfather, Hatton Marshall Moore, and I credit my twisted sense of humour to him. When I was a kid, I had one of those Betsy-Wetsy type dolls, one who would take a bottle and then sit on a little pink toilet. One night, while hanging out at his and Big Granny's house in Colorado City, I turned my back on Big PawPaw while my doll was doing her business. He wadded up a piece of black paper, threw it in the doll's toilet and waited for me to look in. When I did, he said, "Did you see what that doll did? That's disgusting!" And then he laughed and laughed. He loved his family more than anything. He was very proud of his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids, and he enjoyed spending time with all of us. He taught us all to play Canasta, and it was a great source of family bonding years after he was gone. He also taught us all how to fish, and he delighted in bringing my great-grandmother, Edna , or Big Granny, and their much loved dog, Sandy, to the river to meet up with the family for a few relaxing days of camping and fishing. He was crazy about his wife until the day he died. They celebrated 63 years together, and on their 60th anniversary, they had a photo taken for the local newspaper. You can see his hand on her shoulder and the love in their eyes. I keep a framed copy of this photo on my shelf, with the caption "Hatton and Edna: A True Love Story." Hatton and Edna had seven children: Mae, Marshall, Margaret , Bill, Bob, DA, and Cal. Margaret's memorial is here, and Bobby has also passed away, unfortunately. I'd like to thank Beth Love, a cousin on Hatton's side, for taking the photo of the grave and turning the record over to me so that I could create a memorial for my wonderful great-grandfather.
