Frances "Jane" Hosek, 87, went home to the Lord on Friday, February 23, 2024, surrounded by her family. Jane was born July 3, 1936, to Benedict and Susie Wiatrek at home in Kosciusko, Texas. Jane attended school in Kosciusko until tenth grade and transferred and completed her education at Poth High School. Jane married the love of her life, Emil "Daniel" Hosek, on October 16, 1956, and they were married for 64 years. She worked as a teacher's aide in Kosciusko and Poth and later became a substitute teacher in Floresville and Poth, where she touched many lives. She was a very talented seamstress and sewed clothes and designed beautiful quilts for her family and friends. Jane loved baking and was best known for her homemade poppyseed cake. She taught her children and grandchildren many of her baking secrets, which led to several Champion bakers. She volunteered as a judge for baked food shows in several counties. She was known for her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens and lush green yard. Her door was always open,and friends were welcome and treated to great conversation and her homemade baked goods. Jane was a lifetime member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Poth; in 2017, she received the Lumen Gentium Award in recognition of her generous service tothe life of the Church. She was also a Eucharistic Minister, served on the Parish Council, and taught and coordinated the CCD Program for 37 years. She was an active member of the Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters, where she coordinated the quilting projects for the annual fundraiser for the Church. As an active member and officer of the KJZT, Jane organized the annual bake sale to benefit the Poth Volunteer Fire Department. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister, Alene Ann (Sami) Pruski, and brothers-in-law Edward and Vernon Pruski. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. at Vinyard Chapel in Poth. Viewing will be on Thursday, February 29, 2024, starting at 9:00 a.m., followed by the funeral mass at 10:30 a.m.in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
