Theresa "Terry" Anne Urbanski, age 69, of Grand Island, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at her home. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, February 27th at 10:30 am at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Father Tom Ryan celebrant. A visitation will be held Monday, February 26th from 5-7 pm with a rosary at 7 pm at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Theresa was born September 8, 1954 in Palm City, CA to Joseph "Spud" E. and Josephine "JoAnne" Shafer. She grew up in various towns around Nebraska and graduated from Ord High School in 1972. She then moved to Omaha and that is where she met the love of her life Thomas. They were united in marriage on September 28, 1974 in Ord. To this union five children were born. They lived in Omaha until 1977 when they moved to North Platte and then in 1993, they moved to Grand Island. She attended Mid-Plains Community College where she received an associated degree. Terry was employed with Mid Plains Center for Behavior Health for over 20 years. Terry was devoted to her children and grandchildren. She attended all their musicals, sporting events and activities. She will be remembered for always having a surplus of candy comparable to a candy store. She liked to read and be on the boat at the river or the side-by-side. Her and Thomas enjoyed traveling and went to many amazing places together. She was always up for a game, whether it was Yahtzee, bingo or pitch and she always kept a running tally of who won. She was always happy with a big smile on her face (until Wal-Mart started self-checkout). She was hardworking, passionate and always there to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. Terry is survived by her husband, Thomas; children, Jennifer (Tyler) Hering of Omaha, Amanda (Steve) Skradski of Omaha, Alison (David) Johnson of Omaha, Martin (Erin) Urbanski of Grand Island and Thomas II (Jessica) Urbanski of Papillion; grandchildren, TJ, Brayden, Maddie, Hayley, Skylar, Isaac, Ellie, Natalie, Savannah, Mackenzie, Corbyn, Avery, Thomas III, Alexander and Lilianna; sister, Cynthis (Harvey) Schultz of Queen Creek, AZ; brother, Dan Shafer of West Monroe, LA; and sisters in-law, Mickey (Dean) Shafer of Grand Island and Marlene Vasicek of Ord; 11 nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews and aunts and uncles. Terry is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Joseph Michael Shafer and Donald Douglas Shafer; in-laws, Martin and Adeline Urbanski and brother in-law, Leonard Urbanski.
