Bio
Dr. James O. Ewing, 88, of Bonaparte, died at 2:05 a.m. Tuesday, September 22, 1992 at Van Buren County Hospital, Keosauqua. He was born January 2, 1904 at Allendale, Mo. to Andrew and Cordelia Adams Ewing. He married Crystal Hughes June 12, 1929 at Grundy Center, Iowa. He served the Bonaparte community as a doctor for 47 years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of the Christian Church, Mt. Ayr, Iowa, the Iowa State Medical Association, the Bonaparte Lions Club and the Bonaparte Masonic Lodge where he was a 32nd Degree Mason and Past Master. He served on the Bonaparte City Council for many years and was a member of the school board. He is survived by his wife and a brother Loren Ewing of Bonaparte. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 24 at 1:30 p.m. at the Bonaparte United Church with Rev. Fred Malone officiating. Burial will be in the Bonaparte Cemetery. A Masonic Service will be held at the grave site. A memorial has been established to the Bonaparte First Responders.
