Myrtle Lee Young Smith, passed away at 6:30 PM on Sunday, April 20, 2008 in a local health care facility. Mrs. Smith was born Myrtle Lee McDowell in Alexandria, LA and had resided in Lake Charles since 1955. She was married to Huey Long Smith for the past 44 years and together they established the Smitty's Food Store chain which has only one market now but at its peak had 7 markets in Lake Charles. Mrs. Smith leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband, Huey Long Smith of Lake Charles, one son, Johnny Wayne Young and his wife Bonnie of Moss Bluff; three daughters, Debra Young Krizman and her husband Rick, of Santa Monica, CA, Beverly Matlock and her husband Gary of Lafayette and Delores Harris and her husband Larry of Orange, TX, one sister, Birdie Elaine McDowell Harris of Alexandria, LA and numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Friday, April 25, 2008 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Chris Fuselier will officiate. Burial will be in Orange Grove Cemetery. Visitation Friday will be from 9:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
