Bio

Obituary for Mr John Ellis Calvert John Ellis Calvert, aged 74, passed away on August 7, 2022. He suffered a massive stroke while battling recurring cancer. He was born in Robertsdale, Alabama and was the son of Dessie Levens Calvert and John Arnold Calvert. He is survived by his beloved wife Cynthia Watson Calvert, his brothers Timothy Arnold Calvert and wife Debbie Hamilton, Steven Hollis Calvert and wife Cathy Calvert, Douglas Harold Calvert (deceased), brother-in-law Crawford Denton Gibbes and wife Laura Gibbes. Ellis served four years in the army, after which he began a career in insurance. He was a senior agent for Allstate Insurance for over 30 years, winning many awards for outstanding service and was recognized for his ever-growing clientele. To say Ellis lived a full life is an understatement. He learned to fly hot air balloons and became a licensed pilot in 1992, with his wife as crew chief. Ellis flew for over 25 years. He was an avid scuba diver, as he and his wife dove in many tropical locations, and always in the company of friends. Ellis was a licensed boat captain, who took every friend he had or someone he barely knew, fishing. He had a gift for finding fish! Ellis was the life of the party, the joke teller, starting each joke with "This is a true story." He lived loud and played hard, no matter where he was, a foreign county, a friend's house or the pier house at his home, where countless parties, impromptu gatherings and moments of still, silent awe of the beauty around him gave him profound joy and contentment. Ellis loved his wife, his family, his friends and his home with his whole heart, and often said he was so blessed to live this life. He lived every second of it. A memorial service will be on Sunday, August 28th at 2:00 p.m. at the Calvert Residence in Orange Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: William F.
