DONNA GESTRIN Obituary DONNA VEE ILENE GESTRIN Donna Vee Ilene Gestrin, 93, of Cascade Idaho, passed away peacefully in her home on December 31st, 2023. Donna was born on April 25th 1930 to Walter and Ada Mattox in Sargent Nebraska. Their family moved to Nampa Idaho in 1947. They later lived in Marsing, Roseberry and Caldwell. She and her 7 siblings, Norman, Gerald, Evelyn, Darlene, Mary, Marlin and Anita participated in many family get togethers and childhood games. In 1949 she met Albert Gestrin and they wed in 1951, going on to have a son, Dennis. Donna would often tell stories of learning to drive the combine to help bring in the harvest, and how because her legs were so short, Albert would rig wooden blocks to help her reach the pedals. She enjoyed visiting and camping with her sisters at the lake in the summer and learning to downhill ski in the winter. Later in life Donna became involved with Home Interiors and proudly hosted parties all over Valley County. Following her success with Home Interiors, she spent her time bookkeeping for the Assembly of God Church and Center Irrigation District. She was an active member of the prayer chain and could be counted on to pray feverishly for others. She was known as a true prayer warrior and spent most evenings reading her bible and praying. After Albert passed away in 2021, Donna was determined to return to her home. She loved nature and although she was not as active as she used to be, she could still spot the elk in the pasture near the tree line and loved feeding her barn cats. At 93 years old, she had lived there independently for over two and a half years. Donna is survived by her sisters Mary and Anita, and her granddaughter Autumn, grandson-in-law Joe and great granddaughter Alexandra. Celebration of Life services will be held June 8, 2024 from 2-4 p.m. at the Long Valley Finnish Church. Published by The Star-News from Jan. 26 to Jan. 25, 2024.
