Bio

Fort Bend Herald, January 23, 2024: Gary Wayne Siecko, of Edna, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at the age of 74. He was born in Edna, Texas on August 29, 1949 to the late Johnnie August Siecko and Mary Emily (Woytek) Siecko. ary grew up in the country on a small ranch in Mordele (half way between Morales and Cordele). He had lots of space to roam, from the Navidad River up through the Cordele oil fields where his dad worked. Gary, 'Joe Boy' Fiew, his brothers, Glen and Melvin, Glenn Fiew, and John 'Grizz' Karl explored every pasture and chased every animal and bird around for miles. Gary attended Edna Schools, and was active in FFA and the Distributive Education Program (DECA). Gary was a quick study, and by the time he graduated, he was running the produce department at Stanley's Food Store in Edna while working in the DECA program. After graduation in 1968, Gary moved to Sugar Land to work for Imperial Sugar Company.Shortly thereafter, he married. It was during this time that the Vietnam war was raging, and Gary joined the Army Reserves and did basic training at Fort Polk in Louisiana. He then returned to Sugar Land to his job and family. He worked at Imperial Sugar for 35 years, retiring only when the owners shut down that plant and moved operations to Georgia. At the time of his retirement, Gary was Parts and Inventory Manager in the Maintenance Department, and helped Imperial Sugar move all the inventory to its Georgia location and set up their inventory controls there. Gary was very talented---a good self-taught welder, electrician, plumber, carpenter, roofer, mechanic, cattle vet, fence builder, gardener---you name it. He could analyze the problem and figure it out. As an example of his talents, he bought 2 classroom buildings, each on a lot, from Sugar Land Baptist Church in the 1970s, and converted the buildings by himself to small rent houses. He told his sister, Barbara, that he never called a repairman (always did repairs himself) during the 30+ years he leased out those properties. Gary was a loving father, grandfather, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, who will be dearly missed. Gary's pride and joy were his three children and his grandchildren. He always looked forward to the holidays and weekends that they could all spend time together riding around the pasture, sitting around the fire pit, shooting fireworks, and just having great family time. Gary is survived by his daughter, Amy Lynn Siecko Allen (Ben); sons, Chris Siecko and Jason Daniel Siecko (Sarah); sister, Barbara Siecko James (John); brothers, Melvin Siecko (Robbie) and Lynn Siecko (Donna); grandchildren, Emma Siecko, Johnny Siecko, Aubrey Siecko, and Baby Allen (due in April); uncle, Fred James Siecko (Nelda); nephews, Mark Lewis, Shane Siecko, and Bryce Siecko; nieces, Shaye Siecko Morales and Jordyn Siecko Speights; and numerous cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patsy Siecko Lewis and her husband, Roy Lewis; and brother, Glen David Siecko. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 am, all in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel in Edna, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Geiger Cemetery Associates c/o Brenda Herrington – Treasurer, 667 CR 146A, Sublime, TX 77986.
