Bio

Mary Kay Johnson, age 75, of Genoa, Nebraska died January 12, 2024, at Columbus Community Hospital, after a brief illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM on Monday, January 22, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Genoa with Father Bill Cremers and Father Bill L'Heureux concelebrating the Mass. Visitation will be on Sunday, from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM, with a Vigil Service at 4:00 PM, and visitation will continue Monday, from 9:30 AM until service time, all at the church. Interment will be in Valley View Cemetery. Mary Kay was born in Humphrey, Nebraska, on April 24, 1948, to Joe and Charlotte (Sand) Cremers. She graduated from Genoa High School in 1966. She married Dean Johnson in September, 1971. To this union were born two children, Deanne and Greg. Mary Kay worked various jobs over the years and for the last 15 years was the editor and owner of the Genoa Leader Times. She was involved in community organizations, Pawnee Senior Center, Genoa Museum, and St. Rose of Lima Altar Society. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, visiting the casinos, and she was a friend to every dog and cat she ever encountered. Mary Kay is survived by daughter Deanne, son Greg (Valerie), grandchildren Ethan and Isabelle, all of Lincoln. Brother Ted (Mary Ellen) Cremers, brother Jim (Marlene) Cremers, sister JoAnn Cremers and sister-in-law Virginia Cremers. She was preceded in death by parents Joe and Charlotte Cremers, brother Dave Cremers and sister Norma Cremers.
