Bio

Carolyn Lassek of Seattle, Washington was led to her heavenly home on Wednesday, December 27, 2023. Carolyn was born Virginia Jane Lassek on September 29,1932 in Columbus, Nebraska to Stephen and Helen (Tworek) Lassek. The oldest of five children, Carolyn lived on the family farm near Duncan, Nebraska until 1946 when she left to join the Franciscan Mother House in Denver, Colorado. There, she graduated from high school and college before moving to the new campus, Mount Saint Francis in Colorado Springs, Colorado. During her time as a nun, Carolyn earned a master's degree in history from St. Louis University and other subjects before becoming an administrator at the University of Albuquerque. In the early 1970s, Carolyn left the Franciscan order, moving to Seattle where she was hired as the first Director of Religious Education at Our Lady of the Lake Parish in Seattle. Through her ministry work, she continued to serve the Archdiocese Seattle for over three decades. Carolyn was a fixture at ordinations, rites of elections and other major liturgical moments in the Seattle church. Carolyn was a longtime and active member of Saint James Cathedral, Seattle, Washington volunteering there after her retirement. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings, Eugene Lassek of Fullerton, Nebraska; Virgil Lassek of Columbus, Nebraska; Delores Prososki and brother-in-law Jerome Prososki of Columbus, Nebraska and Infant brother Raymond Lassek. She is survived by her two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Lassek of Fullerton, Nebraska and Rosemary Lassek of Columbus, Nebraska; her godchildren, Roberto Lucero-Miner (Omaha, Nebraska) and Marcilla Proudfit (Woodinville, WA); many nieces and nephews throughout Nebraska, Colorado, Arizona and New York. Carolyn is remembered for her compassion, joyful heart, ever-present smile, contagious laugh and dedication to the church and God. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Jan. 20 at St. James Cathedral, Seattle, Washington with recitation of the rosary at 10:30 a.m. and a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Jan. 20 at Holyrood Cemetery in Shoreline, Washington.
