James Leonard McCurley (March 7, 1924 - January 7, 2024) James Leonard McCurley, 89, of Corinth, Texas went to be with the Lord peacefully on Sunday, January 7, 2024 in Corinth. He was born in Lake Dallas, Texas on Wednesday, March 7, 1934 to Fred Warren McCurley and Reta Ladell (Alexander) McCurley. James McCurley was well respected in the community -- for being instrumental in establishing the Lake Cities Volunteer Fire Dept, for serving on the Lake Dallas ISD School Board, and for serving on the Lake Dallas City Council. He was a member of Lake Shore Baptist Church, and volunteered with the Texas Baptist Men. James was married to his wife Patsy for 72 years. James and Patsy were high school sweethearts, from different high schools, which required James hitchhiking to Patsy's house every weekend. They were married at 17 years of age at the First Baptist Church of Gainesville (Texas), on Saturday, December 15, 1951. James enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing dominos with friends. He also enjoyed listening to country and gospel music. He never met a stranger -- which helped him succeed in a career of being an outside salesman. James is survived by his wife, Patsy McCurley of Corinth, Texas; sons -- Roger McCurley and wife Candice of Northlake, Texas, Larry McCurley and wife Pam of Corinth, Texas, Randy McCurley and wife Jane of Boerne, Texas, and Edgar Fowler and wife Judy of Krum, Texas; brothers -- Joe Davis and wife Vicki of Kaufman, Texas, Freddie McCurley and wife Kay of Rockwall, Texas; sister-in-law Claudine McCurley of Denton; twelve grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren. He had many nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his mother and father, and brother Herbert Lee (Herb) McCurley (findagrave memorial number 261799575), and sister Betty Lorraine Davis Brown.
