Paul Dewey Place, Jr., 82, of Desert Hot Springs, CA, passed away at Desert Regional Medical Center on June 13, 2008, from complications of diabetes. His devoted and beloved wife, Rosemary, was at his bedside at the time of his death. Paul was born in Long Beach, CA, to Paul Dewey Place, Sr. and Selma Matson Place on September 12, 1925. Paul married: *** Betty Jean Stowell on 17 Jan 1946 in Los Angeles, CA. *** Rosemary (Trudeau) Rick on 9 Dec 1972 in Palos Verdes, CA. After graduating from Montebello High School, Paul enlisted in the United States Navy and was a Veteran of World War II. He was stationed in Pearl Harbor where his duties included high diving exhibitions for Admiral Nimitz. He was a member and former Big Sir of the SIRS (Sons in Retirement) organization while living in South Lake Tahoe. He spent most of his working years in management for Chrysler Motors Corp., Hoffman Electronics and retired from Learned Lumber Co., Hermosa Beach, CA. Paul enjoyed golf and loved music. A favorite artist and song was Frank Sinatra's "My Way". He exemplified the true meaning of the lyrics of that song and indeed he lived his life "Paul's Way". He was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Jean Place. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Place; daughters, Shirley Morris, Debra Place; stepsons, Scott Rick, Michael Rick; sister Estelle Porter; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was greatly loved and will remain forever in our hearts. He will be missed.
