Bio

Hastings resident Benjamin Bilka, 78, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2023, at Nebraska Medicine, Omaha, NE. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 2, at Butler Volland Chapel in Hastings with Pastor Krystal Kennard. Burial with military rites by the Hastings Military Honor Guard will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. The service will be live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home's website. To view the service, go to Benjamin's obituary and click the play button shown towards the bottom of the page. Benjamin was born October 20, 1945, in Sargent, NE to John and Emma (Fajmon) Bilka. He graduated from Sargent High School in 1964 and received his Associate's Degree from Central Community College. Benjamin served with the U.S. Army from September 6, 1968 to April 10, 1971. He married Jean Richardson on May 31, 1980; she preceded him in death on August 12, 2015. Benjamin worked most of his career as a machinist and most recently worked for Nebraska Aluminum Casting in Hastings. He was a member of Lakeside Community Church of the Nazarene. Benjamin was very deep into his faith and religion and enjoyed fishing and tinkering with tools. Benjamin was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Jean Bilka; and brother, Lambert Bilka.
