The Sioux City Journal Bernice Treiber DANBURY, Iowa -- Bernice Treiber, 87, of Danbury died unexpectedly Sunday, June 19, 2005, at Willow Dale Wellness Village in Battle Creek, Iowa. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury, with the Rev. Terry Roder officiating. Burial will be in Danbury Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with a St. Mary's Rosary Society rosary at 3:30 p.m. and a vigil wake service at 7:45 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Home in Danbury and Mapleton, Iowa. Bernice Treiber was born March 31, 1918, in rural Danbury, the daughter of John and Ethel (Tower) Fitzpatrick. She was a lifelong resident of the Danbury community. In 1936, she graduated from St. Patrick's Academy in Danbury. She was united in marriage to Carl P. Treiber on June 1, 1939, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury. The couple then farmed south of town, where they lived and raised their family. They remained on that same farm until their retirement in 1984, when they moved into Danbury. Carl died Dec. 30, 1988. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Rosary Society and St. Mary's choir. She enjoyed playing cards and was involved in numerous card clubs over the years. She also loved flowers and took pride in their care as well as that of her home and yard. She especially loved time spent with her grandchildren. Those left to cherish their memories of her include three sons, Bob Treiber and Diana Kovarna, Tim and his wife, Joann, and Todd and his wife, Donna, all of Danbury; three daughters, Bonnie Kallsen of Mapleton, Iowa, Sandy and her husband, Harry Sypersma, of Sioux City and Sharlene and her husband, Jim Novak, of Omaha; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Norman and Vivian Fitzpatrick of Waterloo, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Pauline Jochims and Laura Fitzpatrick, both of Danbury, and Cora Fitzpatrick of California; and many other relatives and good friends. Along with her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Ronald, Robert and Daniel; and three sisters, Helen Langdon, Pauline Uhl and Francene Treiber.
