Josef Svacina was born on January 17, 1858 at his parents home, # (cislo) 33 in Dolni Ves to Josef and Frantiska Betak (Betakova) Svacina. His father was listed as a tenant farmer in the register. Josef was delivered with the help of a midwife, Veronika Frysak of # 58, Dolni Ves. His godparents were Pavel and Frantiska Karlik of Dolni Ves and he was baptized by the parish priest, Anton Raschka, at the church in Frystak. Pavel Karlik was listed as a cottager, a person who owned a small plot of land on which he earned his living. Josef Svacina married Aloisie Dlabaja on February 22, 1881 at the parish church. The marriage ceremony was performed by Karel Vymazal and witnessed by Jan Dlabaja and Jan Hrncirik, both cottagers. Josef was 23 and Aloisie was 27 years old. Apparently the age of consent was at least 25 because it was noted Josef was required to get his father's permission to get married. Josef's occupation was listed as a shoemaker living at # 75 in Dolni Ves. The Dlabaja family lived at # 24 in Dolni Ves. Joseph Svacina was employed as a shoemaker at the Bata Shoe Factory in the nearby city of Zlin, later called Gottwaldov. The name has now been changed back to Zlin. Joseph died in 1893, after a fall from a pear tree onto a stone wall in the family front yard, which was a garden. Their home in Dolni Ves, cislo ( number ) 32, consisted of a small three room wooden structure with a roof of wooden shakes. The pear tree and stone wall stood to the left of the house. The house, located about a quarter of a mile southeast of the town square of Frystak, stood until the late 1980's when it was demolished. Above information from book by Joe Albin Karlik 2008
