Even though this is a double marker, C.H. is buried in Austin, Texas.
~✾~Mary Amanda "Mandy" Simmons James~✾~ William Cowden Simmons and Mary Clay Robnett Simmons welcomed their 3rd child, Mary Amanda "Mandy", into their hearts and family at her birth on May 8, 1870. On the 10th of April in 1892, Mandy and Charles Hamilton "C.H." James exchanged wedding vows. Their marriage was blessed with 4 children ~ Jesse Ernest, Vera Tessie, Audra Stella, and Bernice Irene. Sadly, Vera Tessie died at 1 month of age. Although, Mandy did not live on this earth long enough to see all their births, she had 13 precious grandchildren. C.H. and Mandy moved many times during their marriage. Leaving East Texas in the early 1900's, they relocated to Sabinal, where C.H. owned a store for 10+ years. The family of 5 then moved to El Paso before taking off to New Mexico, then Arizona, then back to New Mexico. They lived several locations in "The Land of Enchantment" before finally settling in Roswell. Mandy detested unpacking. She was sure that as soon as she did, C.H. would get the yearning to move on again. Mandy loved to quilt and tell stories. Many of these stories have been passed down thru the years to her grandchildren and now great-great-grandchildren. Thanks to one of her granddaughters, these stories... and more, are now written for all present and future generations to get to know what a special lady Mandy was. She was a wonderful Christian wife and mother who was cherished by C.H. and her children. Having been baptized into Christ at the age of 24, Mandy remained faithful to her Lord and Savior until her eyes closed in death at approximately 6:30 a.m. on August 14, 1930. To those who knew and loved her, Mandy was the epitome of the virtuous woman described in the 31st chapter of Proverbs. ...for her price is far above rubies ~ verse 10 ~✾~Heavenly Peace~✾~
