Services for Mildred M. "Millie" Babel, 100, of Humphrey were Monday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey under direction of Duesman Funeral Home. Mildred M. "Millie" Babel died peacefully into the presence of the Lord on Oct. 10, 2014, at Brookstone Acres in Columbus. Millie was born Aug. 21, 1914, in Madison County near St. Bernard to Ignatz Casper and Rose M. (Remm) Beller. She attended St. Bernard School and then pursued domestic housekeeping in Chicago, Ill., and Richmond, Ind. She married Victor Babel on April 22, 1941, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, and together they farmed near St. Bernard and moved to Humphrey in 1976. She belonged to the Christian Mother Society and St. Francis Quilters, enjoyed gardening, flowers and playing cards. She is survived by daughter Karen (Darrell) Gabel of Shelby; sons Bill (Mary Ann) of Humphrey, Gary (Sharon) of Omaha, Don (Claudia) of Lincoln, Glen (Patty) of Livermore, Calif., Lyle (Sue) of Humphrey, Jack (Judy) of Lindsay, Randy (Deb), of Columbus, Wayne (Diane) of Columbus; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Jyene Beller, Marie Brakenhoff, Rosalie Weiland, Lena Babel; brothers-in-law Lavern Babel and Elmer Babel and lots of wonderful nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by parents; husband Victor; sisters Adeline Mirr, Loretta Schmidt, Louella Schmid, Bernadette Jaixen and Norene Unger; and brothers Florence, Vincent and Walter.
