Bio

Born to Hattie Prause and Arthur Daniel Meyer. Garlin was the eighth child of ten brothers and sisters. As a young man, Garlin played the Saxophone in a Swing Dance Band with his brothers. He served in the Navy during WW II as a Boatswain's Mate 2nd Class, on a PC-579 and later on the SS Kilty in the Pacific. He received Honorable Discharge on January 3, 1946. Following the war, Garlin moved to Houston, where he met and married Anne Agnes Srubar on 16 February, 1947. During their married life, he was a diligent employee of Champion Papers and a devoted husband and father to eight children. Garlin and his family were founding members and dedicated parishioners of Saint Augustine Catholic Church. In his retirement years Garlin was able to travel to Japan, Singapore and Australia, as well as enjoy time with fishing, music, and woodworking before becoming ill. Garlin was superseded in death by his oldest daughter Cynthia Sitton. He is survived by his wife Anne Agnes Meyer, his sons Michael, David, Steven, Glenn and Chris Meyer, daughters, Susan Stone, and Mary Johnson and their spouses. In addition, he is survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Garlin will be remembered as a special man. He asked little for himself, always putting his family and others first. He truly left the world a better place than when he arrived. His passing is a loss not only for his loved ones, but for all mankind.
