Bio

Danny, (Daniel F. Whitt) 67 of Florence, Colorado passed away from natural causes at his home on July 3, 2023. A private family service is planned for a later date. Danny was born on July 15th, 1955, in Nebraska and spent his formative years in Grand Island, Nebraska from age 13 on. Upon the tragic death of his father at age 13, Danny came to reside with the Donald and Cathy Waterman family where they raised him as their own. Danny's father Fritz, and Cathy were brother and sister. To this move Danny gained 5 adoptive siblings with 2 more on the way over the next 5 years and 2 brothers. Over the years as Danny got older, he would be reunited and keep in touch with his mother and sisters, along with their children. Danny became skilled in working with heavy equipment and welding at an early age of 14 along with the racing cars circuit. One of Danny's biggest accomplishments was buying his own first brand new 1973 Challenger in Lime Green. That car was fast, and Danny made sure people knew it. Danny made many lifelong friends while living in Grand Island. He attended Grand Island Central Catholic and graduated in 1973. After Danny graduated and moved out on his own, he lived in Giltner, Nebraska while working for Waterman Land leveling Company. In the mid- 1980's Danny moved to Longmont Colorado and began working for Tanko Corporation where he used his welding skills at fixing seams inside tanks, which was a dangerous job. Danny traveled to many states with his 5th wheel mastering this trade. Danny married Mary Whitt in 1988 and they eventually would move to the top of Florissant Mountain. Danny worked for the Cripple Creek Mine until his health started failing in 2015 and he and his wife's health forced them both to move down the mountain to a smaller house and better altitude. Although many would think that Danny was a very quiet and reserved person, he was a genuine prankster around people he knew well. It was not unlike him to chase his given family around the acreage with snakes and other items that would scare the girls. Danny loved spying on his adoptive sisters, as Don would send him and the other 2 boys to the drive-in to make sure everything was on the up and up with the younger girl's dates. Danny kept this a secret for over 20 years! Danny was a great listener if you needed a friend, and would tell it like it is, if he thought you needed an uplifting. Danny loved his pet dogs that he had over the decades and yes, they would sit at the table like a human until you were done eating, then they knew it was their turn. Danny went from listening to Bruce Springsteen and the Rolling Stones in the 80's to country rock. Danny was loved by many between Nebraska and Colorado and will be greatly missed by his two biological sisters Fran and Tina, his adopted family Debra Waterman, Rick Waterman, Charlene (Troy) Arp, Pamela Brandt, Sherry (Bob) Weidt and Cynthia Waterman of the Grand Island Nebraska area. Danny loved visiting his plethora of over 39 nieces and nephews and over 12 great nieces and nephews. Danny was preceded in death by his wife Mary, mother and father Fritz and LaVerna Whitt, adoptive father and mother Donald and Catherine Waterman, adoptive brother Mike Waterman and great niece Cassandra Waterman. Donations can be made to your local Humane Society in honor of Dan Whitt. Funeral services for the departed are scheduled for Tuesday, July 18 at 1:00 PM at Howe Mortuary, located at 439 Coffman St., in Longmont, Colorado. A viewing will be facilitated one hour prior to the funeral at 12:00 PM for those who would like to attend. theflorencereporter.com/f/memorial-service-planned-for-florence-resident-daniel-f-whitt
