James was the husband of Ann Hare Reid. Records indicate James Reid, a native of Ireland, arrived in the US in June 1833 and had filed his declaration in Bedford County, TN. He applied for naturalization and took the oath of allegiance (Oct 1837 term of circuit court) at the age of 43. Family records indicate James Reid married Isabel Anna Green (Ann H. Reid). He is listed as father of James Washington Reid and possibly a May Miller, along with sons Hiram, Stephen G., William R., and Austin Reid. This tombstone was carved by the famous Roswell Hubbard of Whitley County, Kentucky.
"sacred to the memory of James Reid who died September 26, 1841, Aged: 47 years". The epitah (carved by R. Hubbard in 1851) reads, "My Soul Help on GOD Relies. From Him My Safety Shows. My Strength Who All My Wants Supplies. My Refuge From MY Foes".
