Henry W. Rieken December 29, 1938 - July 30, 2023 Henry Rieken, 84 of Merrill, Iowa, passed away at his home on Sunday, July 30, 2023. Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 3, 2023 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars, Iowa. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Merrill. Visitation with the family present will begin at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., all on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Henry William Rieken was born on December 29, 1938 in Brunsville, Iowa, the son of William and Viola (Weber) Rieken. He grew up on a farm north of Brunsville and attended country school at Brunsville No. 8. In 1947, he moved with his family to Westfield, Iowa where he continued his schooling. In 1954, he moved to Le Mars. Henry was united in marriage to Mary Singer on December 14, 1962 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Following their marriage, they made their home in Merrill, Iowa. Henry worked for over 42 years in the general construction business, working many of those years for Holtze Construction in Sioux City. He was a devoted member of the Laborers International Union Local 427 and the Laborers International Union of North American Local 1140 for many years. He retired in 2000. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Henry enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, and raising flowers. Henry also enjoyed taking numerous bus trips with Mary and playing cards. But most of all, he loved the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Henry is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Mary; son, Scott (Carla) Rieken of Merrill, Iowa and their children: Kayla (Travis) Hicks, Kyle Rieken, Kourtney (Chad Peters) Rieken, and Kassidy (Brant) Voss; son, Richard (Jody) Rieken of Des Moines, Iowa and their children: Samuel (Katie Robertson) Rieken and Jessica (Jayrolyn) Oliver; seven great grandchildren: Boston Peters, Braylon Peters, Gage Hicks, Gracelyn Hicks, Delilah Voss, Jaelyn Figueroa, and Jeremiah Figueroa; sister, Janet Rosenbaum of Elk Point, SD; brother, Dennis (Pam Lynch) Rieken of Le Mars; siblings in law: Jim Burnett, Darrell Hageman, Bill Singer, Sandy Ludwigs, and Linda Dunkin; nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives. Henry is preceded in death by his parents, William and Viola (Weber) Rieken; parents in law, Ray and Eileen (LaBahn) Singer; two sisters: Kathy Burnett and Bette (Walt) Erickson; siblings in law: Russell Rosenbaum, Kevin Singer, Peggy Hageman, and infant Guy Singer; and niece, Julie Field.
