Bio

Eleanor Elizabeth Kokes, 89, formerly of Buhl, passed away March 26, 2008, at a Boise skilled nursing facility. Eleanor was born in Lawrence, Neb., on Aug. 24, 1918, the second child of Bernard and Philomena Kimminau. She attended school through the eighth grade and then went to work to help the family. She worked at Hastings, Neb., and later moved to Buhl, Idaho, where she worked at J.C. Penney. At this time she became lifelong friends with Verna Fassler Reigle and Elaine Fassler Meissner. She met Theodore "Ted" Kokes and they were married on Feb. 14, 1949, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where they were parishioners for the next 55 years. Ted and Eleanor had 5 children, Susan, Nancy, Charles, John and Mary. Ted and Eleanor lived in Buhl until late 2004, when they moved to assisted living in Boise due to Eleanor's poor health. Eleanor was a homemaker for most of her life and an excellent cook and seamstress. She was a devoted mother and worked hard to provide her children the education that she was not able to have. She was a devoted Catholic and was a member of the Catholic Women's league and the Legion of Mary Society. She was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1988 and lived the last twenty years of her life dealing with this disease. Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Ted Kokes; her children: Susan (Dan) Schram, Nancy (Dan) Mapes, Charles (Gina) Kokes, John (Kathy) Kokes, Mary (Jay) Miracle; 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 3 sisters, Patricia Dickerson, LaVeta (Roger) Golden and Marge (Lynn) Gardner. Published in Twin Falls, Idaho Times News
