Nelson, pastor of the First Pentecostal Church of God, died Friday afternoon at his home at 4001 Caddo. Services will be at Coker-Mathews Chapel at 2:30 p.m. Sunday with Rev. J.D. Baker and Rev. A.H. Horn officiating. Burial will be in Memoryland Memorial Park. Rev. Nelson was born in the Jordan (sic) community near Commerce on Jan. 22, 1919, to William and Fannie Bell Winchester Nelson. He married Vernell Alexander on April 12, 1940, in Emory. Survivors are his wife; daughters, Joyce Pattison of Caddo Mills and Joann Thompson of Fort Worth; sister, Mamie Weems of Clinton; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Lewis Nelson Jr., in 1941. Pallbearers will be L.C. Ballard, Jerry Bell, Royce Slough, Kenneth Miller, C.F. Smith and Earl Smith. Honorary pallbearers are the men of First Pentecostal Church of God. The family will be at the funeral home today from 7-9 p.m.
