Bio

Daughter of Louis & May (Knudson) Bernholtz. She entered the U.S. Army on Nov. 27, 1944, and served as a dietitian on Tinian in the Marianas during World War II and for one post-war year in Japan. She also served at Yale University in New Haven, Conn., and with Colonnade Corp. in Detroit. She was discharged with the rank of 1st lieutenant on Jan. 10, 1947. She returned to Holt County to care for her parents and moved to Kearney in fall 1960. She was executive secretary of Kearney United Fund for four years and served as dietitian for Lexington Community Hospital and Platte Valley Medical Group. In 1968, she was appointed as community relations director for Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. As director, she sought to inform the community of the needs of the hospital and the hospital of the needs of the community. She retired in 1988.
