Bio

Dorothy Lee Eddleman Menzdorf, 91, of Waco, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2008, at her home with her family and the loving care of Bluebonnet Hospice. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 2 at Connally/Compton Chapel, 4400 W. Waco Drive, with the Rev. Nathan Stone officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, at the funeral home. Dorothy was born to the late Willie Ola and Everett Vernon McCain and grew up in and around the Hill County towns of Aquilla, Whitney and Hillsboro. She met and married Estelle David "Buddy" Eddleman and later moved to Waco. As a young woman, wife and mother, Dorothy was very involved in activities at Turner Street Baptist Church and went on to be part of the group that founded Westwood Baptist Church in Woodway. Buddy preceded her in death on Oct. 26, 1966. As a young widow in the 60s, she became a business owner, opening Eddleman's Beauty Shop in her home. This allowed her to be home for her children who were still in school. Dorothy was a member of a "wash tub" band at the Sul Ross Community Center, she brought laughter to those in the audience. On May 17, 1980, she married Melvin Menzdorf who preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1999. Always a lover of dancing and country music, Dorothy would spend her Saturday's (even up until her 90s) dancing at the Spur to Josie and the Boys and those old "honky tonk" tunes! Another joy that would "light up" her face (other than a new dress), was when she would see little children, be it her own grandchildren or those she might see while out shopping. She was also preceded in death by her son, Gary Eddleman; grandson, Kevin Eddleman; sisters, Juanita, Clara Mae and Kay; brothers, Jack, J.W., Vernon, Bobby Joe, Donald and D.W.; step-son, Kenneth Menzdorf; and her son-in-law, James Lawrence. She is survived by her daughter, Helen Marie (Eddleman) Lawrence, of San Antonio; sons, Freddie Eddleman and wife, Dot, of Robinson, Roy Eddleman and wife, Kay, of China Spring, and David Eddleman, of Waco; grandsons, John "Butch" Lawrence and wife, Kris, of San Antonio, and Mike Eddleman, of Robinson; granddaughter, Stacy Weichert and husband, Jeff, of San Antonio; great-grandchildren, Maggie, Stephanie and Shannon; sister, Elizabeth Greer, of Fort Worth; brothers, Travis, Benson and Billy McCain (and wives) all of the DFW area, and Harold McCain and wife, Peggye, of Waco; her dear friend, Phyllis Crawford; her faithful dog, her "baby," Bonnie and Bonnie's companions, Clyde, Montana and Patches. She was also loved by many nieces, nephews, step-children, step-grandchildren and other family and friends. WT: 3/31/2008 - 4/1/2008...TH2
