Rudolph or "Rudy" as he was almost always called was born to Stanley and Julia Pollak in Temple, Texas. In high school he excelled in athletics and earned a football scholarship to East Texas State Teachers College. While he was attending college, WWII started; and Rudy enlisted in the National Guard. Once his unit was activated and he had to leave for boot camp, Rudy married his sweetheart Georgia "Toby" Coleman. Before being sent into action in Africa and Italy, Rudy and Toby moved with his army assignments to Georgia, Florida, and Massachusetts. Rudy rose to the position of lieutenant in the 36th Division, U. S. Army, and was sent to the front line in Africa and Italy. While fighting at Monte Casino, Italy, Rudy was wounded and sent stateside. He retired from the military with the rank of captain and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Rudy returned home and, eventually, started his life-long career with the U. S. Post Office. He and Toby had one child, their much-loved son. The small family enjoyed outside activities, fishing, cruising on their boat, and vacationing in Colorado. They built their own home on South 13th Street in Temple. Rudy died in 1997 at Scott and White Hospital in Temple of heart disease. Biography written by Lynn © All rights reserved.
