Bio
Leona Volek Kaiser, 82, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2008. Leona was born to Tom Kropp and Frances Hurta on April 9, 1925, in Williamson County near Granger. She met the love of her life, Arthur Kaiser, on a blind date and married him on November 20, 1949. She was nicknamed "Shorty," being only 5 feet and a smidgen. Leona and her husband were farmers in the earlier years of their marriage. She was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Wuthrich Hill and loved to hunt and fish. After moving to town she worked as a factory worker and retired from American Desk. She was very active and self-sufficient all her life. Leona is survived by her daughters, Kathy Nygrin and husband, Charles, of Taylor, and Debra Hewitt and husband, Harry, of New Braunfels; son, Ricky Kaiser and wife, Carolyn, of Taylor; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Horn of Austin; brothers, Leon Hurta (twin) of Baytown and Daniel Kropp of Granger; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Arthur; parents; daughter, Vicki Shamard; grandchild, Christopher Hewitt; and six siblings. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and nephews: Charles Nygrin Jr., Kelly Nygrin, Christopher Nygrin, Casey Nygrin, Herbert Shamard III, Larry Galindo, Calvin Volek, and Edward Volek Jr. Visitation was Sunday, March 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Condra Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Monday, March 17, at 2 p.m. at Condra Funeral Home with Pastor Walter J. Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Taylor City Cemetery. Condra Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
