Bio

Abilene - Juanita (Nita) Cowling, 69, of Abilene, passed away Monday, March 17, 2008, after a long illness. Funeral services will be 10am Saturday, March 22, 2008, at Belmont Baptist Church. Robert Graven will be officiating. Visitation will be at Girdner Funeral Home Friday from 6-8pm. Nita was born in Lampasas, on July 4, 1938. Nita and her late husband, Skippy Cowling, lived in the Black Fork Community near Waldron, AR, from 1964-1971. While raising their children they also owned and operated 11B Ranch, a beef and dairy farm. They relocated to the Houston-Katy area where Nita later became the first female Foundry Melter in the United States. Nita was a wonderful, loving woman with many accomplishments in her life. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She touched many lives and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Nita is preceded in death by her parents, Avenell and James Hardy Fitzgerald; her sons, Steven Ray Cowling and Richard Charles Barcuch; great-grandsons, Makyen Cowling and Lane Alan Rother; and her sister, Joanne (Elsie) Jowers. She is survived by her children, Carol Sue Martin of Houston, James Earl Cowling of St. Louis, MO, Michael Allen Cowling and Stacy Elise Cowling of Abilene; grandchildren; Tammy Rother, Brandon Cowling, Jason Cowling, Angela Cowling, Nickole Cowling, Brandi Cowling, Jordan Barcuch and Jaycee Barcuch; and eight great-grandchildren.
