Bio

Lewiston Morning Tribune Obituary May 12, 2011 James (Jim) Duane Felton, 70, Lewiston On Monday, May 9, 2011, Jim Felton passed away at Tri-State Memorial Hospital in Clarkston, of heart failure. He was born Aug. 19, 1940, to Jay Felton and Elsie Slater Felton in McCleary, Wash. He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1958. Jim served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1961. He later graduated from Linn-Benton Community College in Albany, Ore. Jim married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Kay King, on July 10, 1959. They met on the school bus, where he saved her a seat beside him every day. They had four children together during their 51 years of marriage. Jim's career included instructing at Linn-Benton Community College in Albany, and Boise State University, in Boise. He also worked for the City of Orofino, Idaho Rural Water Association, and Hells Canyon Resort and Marina. He was a member of the Congregational-Presbyterian Church, Lions and Rotary clubs, president of the Idaho Wildlife Federation, and a member of Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. An avid outdoorsman, Jim loved hunting, fishing and camping with family and friends. His favorite spot was Elk Meadows, where many hunting trips, family reunions and his 50th birthday were celebrated. Jim loved people and enjoyed visiting with those he met. He was an inspiration to many and maintained a positive attitude despite his own health challenges; as he always knew others who faced larger challenges than he. As a devoted family man, he tried to attend as many family events as possible. He was preceded in death by his father, Jay Felton and stepfather, Chuck Arnold. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Congregational-Presbyterian Church in Lewiston, with Pastor Steve Wilbraham officiating. To continue Jim's legacy; in lieu of flowers, he requested that donations in his memory be made to the Craig Mountain Wildlife Management Area Enhancement Fund.
