Elsie A. McAlister Posted: Sunday, July 6, 2014 12:00 am. Elsie A. McAlister, 94, died Monday, June 30, 2014, at Unique Senior Care in Lewiston.. Elsie was born Feb. 29, 1920, to John Slater and Daisy McKay Hunt in Arkansas. Elsie's family moved from Arkansas to McCleary, Wash., in 1928, where she spent her childhood and attended school in McCleary and Elma, Wash. She married Jay A. Felton in 1938 and they had two sons, Keith A. Felton and James D. Felton. Elsie worked as a waitress and housewife in the McCleary area until 1948. The family then moved to Lewiston, where she continued as a waitress and was the pie baker at the White Pine Cafeteria at the Potlatch mill site. Elsie was a member of the Eagles Lodge, where she and Jay enjoyed their favorite pastime of dancing. Elsie was also involved with the family's horse activities, rodeoing and camping trips. Elsie and Jay were divorced in 1964.. Elsie married Charles D. Arnold in 1967 and lived in Pea Ridge, Ariz., until 1972. They retuned to McCleary and cared for her mother and stepfather, who passed away in 1979. They returned to Lewiston with her mother, who passed away in 1988. Elsie and Chuck enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. They spent numerous hours attending family activities and grandchildren's sporting events. Charles Arnold passed away in 1987. Elsie married William E. McAlister in 1997 at Kona, Hawaii. Elsie enjoyed the Hawaiian experiences for one year and returned to Idaho in 1998 to be closer to her family. Bill passed away in 2005.. Elsie then moved in with her son, Keith Felton, in 2007. In 2010, she moved to Unique Senior Care in Lewiston, where she received a very high level of assisted living care and was quite comfortable throughout her stay. She enjoyed many hours of gardening and working with her flowers. She always maintained a positive attitude, along with a good sense of humor and wit whenever you were around her.. She was a member of Orchard Baptist/Orchard Community Church, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, Eagles Lodge and volunteered for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She enjoyed playing cards, crafts, crocheting and camping with family.. Elsie is survived by her son, Keith and Jeanne Felton of Lewiston; daughter-in-law Barbara Felton of Lewiston; stepdaughter Lavina Koch of Mobile, Ala.; stepsons Richard and Nita Arnold of Tulsa, Okla., and John and Violet Arnold of Glenoma, Wash.; 16 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.. She was preceded in death by her son, James D. Felton; husbands Jay A. Felton, Charles Arnold and William McAlister; twin brother Robert Slater; sister Lois Stimpson; parents John Slater and Daisy Hunt; and stepfather Teddy Hunt.. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mountain View Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial donations be made to Valley Meals on Wheels or the Shriner's Hospital..
